Kelly Daniels
Kelly concentrates her practice
primarily on criminal defense, both in state and federal court. The
type of
matters she handles are varied and have included assault, arson,
illicit drugs,
weapons, domestic violence, terroristic threats, theft, fraud and white
collar
crime. Some of her clients are young people charged with acts of
juvenile
delinquency venued in family courts throughout the state. Many others
are law
enforcement officials, at the local, state and federal levels, who are
defendants in civil, criminal and/or administrative matters. She has
defended
countless police disciplinary cases, and
has appeared on numerous occasions before the Department of Personnel
Merit
System Board on behalf of local and state police officials, as well as
corrections officers.
Kelly received her J.D. from
Rutgers School of Law in Newark in 1998, and her
B.A. in political science from Rutgers University in 1995,
graduating from the University with Honors and Highest Honors. Her
passion for
the criminal law stems from her judicial clerkship to the Honorable
Marilyn C.
Clark, P.J.Cr.Div., Passaic County, where, from 1998-1999, she worked
on
criminal motions, sentencing memorandums, municipal appeals and various
other
criminal issues. Upon completing her clerkship, she was honored to
become an
Assistant Prosecutor with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office where
she
prosecuted a variety of criminal offenses of the type she now defends.
Prior to
leaving that Office, she was appointed as Chief of the Insurance Fraud
Unit,
heading a unit whose objective was to unravel and prosecute the
intricacies of
insurance fraud.
Prior to becoming an attorney,
Kelly received a nursing diploma from Englewood Hospital School of
Nursing and
was admitted as a Registered Nurse by the New Jersey Nursing Board in
1986. As
an R.N., she was primarily a staff member of the Medical Intensive Care
Unit,
but also worked in the medical, surgical, oncology, telemetry and
cardiac care
units. Although she still maintains an active R.N. license, she now
exclusively
practices law, and is thankful to be part of a profession that, in its
own way,
can do very much to help people in need.
